FAQ

  • This looks like fun! How can I join?

As of Spring 2023, we accept new singers at each rehearsal! If you’ve never sung for us before, we need to know your voice ahead of time. Please see our new online audition guidelines and send us an email at info@poptonesvocalensemble.com if you have any questions :)

  • Where and when do you rehearse?

Our upcoming term is 6 rehearsals at MotherWit Doula Care in NDG, PLUS a free open rehearsal at PORCHFEST on May 18. We usually rehearse Sundays at 3:30pm. Rehearsals are masked since we are indoors and breathing all over each other.

  • Where can I see you perform?

We have evolved :) We are no longer performing one big concert at the end of each term. Our new format means that we’ll be sharing “tiny desk concert”-style videos all the time, on this website and on our social media platforms.

  • Is there a membership fee?

We now have several membership options. New members should register for one $25 drop-in class only and if it goes well for you AND us, we’ll email you a link to discounted package rates (3- and 7-class packs available) for future rehearsals.

  • Where do you get your arrangements?

Our arrangements are put together with love by our director Dee and guitarist Jake. They are not commercially available as we do not own the rights to these tunes.

  • Do I have to attend every rehearsal?

As of Spring 2023, we are moving to a drop-in model to enhance accessibility for those that cannot commit to every single Sunday but would like to sing with this super cool group of weirdos from time to time. See our membership options below.

  • Do I need to be able to sight read music notation?

We use sheet music to facilitate rehearsals. You should have the ability to navigate sheet music a little bit. It’s not essential that you be able to produce a correct melody off the page with your voice on first glance. Check out the online audition guidelines where there are a few simple video challenges for you to try. These challenges are in line with how we work in the group.
