 FAQs

GENERAL

  • For pregnant people - gentle movement (yoga-inspired) is a healthy way to keep mobility and strength during all 9 months of your pregnancy. I teach classes that are adaptable to all 3 trimesters and am able to offer variations on all poses. We work to soothe the aches and pains of carrying a human, and also to strengthen our bodies for the upcoming huge workout that is childbirth.

I believe gentle movement is safe up until your due date, as long as you listen to your body attentively and rest if needed.

After your birth, I’d recommend waiting until you stop bleeding and any perineal tears or c-section incisions are healed. If you feel wobbly in your pelvis, pee when you cough, etc, that’s all fine and normal. As a benchmark, after my first vaginal birth, I was back at my practice at 5 weeks postpartum with many modifications. If you aren’t sure your body is ready, please consult your physician. If you have any particular health concerns you think I should be made aware of, please let me know ahead of time.

  • Practices are held at MotherWit Doula Care, 5726 Sherbrooke W # 214, Montreal QC. This is a second-floor space with no elevator; I can tell you from personal experience that getting a stroller up the stairs isn't super easy (it's feasible but ugh). I highly recommend wearing your baby to class or bringing them upstairs in their carseat bucket.

There is no parking lot at MotherWit, but ample street parking around.

  • Absolutely! I also offer 3- and 6- class packages to reduce the cost of each class overall, but you can totally drop into a single class for $25.

  • There is one bathroom, but no showers onsite. Please come changed for class if possible. We do not keep props (blocks, straps, bolsters etc) at the space right now. If you wish to use any of these, please bring your own. A cushion works just as well as a special prop ;)

  • I try to keep my Prenatal and M&B classes focused on the experience of the birthing person. These times are very tender and vulnerable and creating a safe space for birthing parents involves limiting registration strictly to humans going through the birth and postpartum process.

Sorry, no partners (even non-birthing mamas), grandparents or buddies allowed! This is birth-mama’s time.

However, if you’d like to bring another mama, I have an add-on that you can select during your check-out for only $15 - essentially giving you both $5 off the drop-in price 😯

  • Yes, absolutely. My intake form will ask for your pronouns, but please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to make you feel more comfortable. I avoid gendered terms like ladies and women in my classes, but tend to use mamas, as I’ve found this convenes to most birthing humans. Please let me know if this doesn't work for you - I want you to feel safe and heard.

  • As my practice and teaching evolves, and as I learn more and more about the western practice of yoga and mindfulness, I have become more and more aware of its capitalistic and corrupt roots here. I do use common pose names and sequences in classes to describe what we are doing, but I personally have begun to reframe how I think of my practice towards movement and awareness, rather than yoga and meditation. The reason I continue to use YOGA in some situations is simply to help others find me.

PRENATAL YOGA

  • Currently, I am mostly teaching prenatal as a sub at a few different studios. Get in touch to find out where.

I also teach privately and can offer insurance receipts for yoga therapy. To book a class with me in your home or at the MotherWit Space, get in touch :)

MOM & BABY

  • I generally recommend only doing this practice with your babe until they are mobile (crawling, walking). After that point, you might spend more of the class running after your little one than practicing. This doesn’t bother me but you might find it to be a waste of your time and money.

  • It’s perfectly fine and normal if your baby cries during class! Do not feel the need to step out of class or apologize. We’re all mamas here and used to it :) With newborns, we practice around their needs - you can stop to feed, diaper, walk your baby at any time. Sometimes all they want is a little eye contact!

In any case, you’re doing this for YOU, and a little de-stressing makes you a better parent anyway!

If your babe’s needs prevent you from practicing at all, talk to me. While classes are non-refundable, I am open to the occasional reschedule.

  • Your lovely self and lovely babe, both in comfy clothes; a water bottle; your yoga mat, a swaddle or blanket for baby to lie on.

Optional: Anything you regularly bring with you for your babe (diapers, toys, snacks, carrier, etc.); anything else you need to make your practice comfortable.

  • The easiest way to use your package is to create an account and purchase the package from within the account. If you do that, your account should auto-fill the unique code associated to your package and deduct the class during your registration. If you purchased the package without creating an account, then you will have received an email with a code. You can use this code in the “coupon” box during checkout to have the system deduct the class from your package. Feel free to contact me for support.
